The Complete Guide to Holy Fire® Reiki Training

Everything You Need to Know before Deciding if Reiki Training is Right for You

Thinking About Learning Reiki?

Maybe you've been interested in energy healing for years but never taken the first step. Or perhaps Reiki has simply kept appearing in your life, and you're beginning to wonder whether it's time to find out more. Whatever has brought you here, choosing a Reiki course can feel like a big decision.

What actually happens during Reiki training? Do you need previous experience? What's the difference between Usui and Holy Fire® Reiki? What happens during a Reiki Placement? And could you really learn to practice Reiki yourself?

This guide is designed to answer those questions and give you a clear, honest picture of what you can expect from Holy Fire® Reiki Training.

I teach Holy Fire® Reiki Levels 1, 2, Master/Teacher & Karuna Master/Teacher in Torquay, Devon, and online via Zoom.

But first, let's go back to the beginning.

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a Japanese healing practice that works with the concept of universal life force energy.

The word Reiki is commonly translated from Japanese as:

Rei – universal or spiritual
Ki – life force energy

The practice was developed in Japan in the early twentieth century by Mikao Usui and has since spread throughout the world. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive practice that encourages deep relaxation, enabling the body to heal itself.

During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner places their hands gently on or just above different areas of the body, allowing Reiki energy to flow.

You don't have to understand exactly how Reiki works to experience it. And you don't have to hold any particular religious or spiritual beliefs to learn it.

What is Holy Fire® Reiki?

Holy Fire® Reiki is a system of Reiki developed by William Lee Rand, founder of the International Center for Reiki Training (ICRT). It incorporates the foundations of Usui Reiki while introducing the Holy Fire® energy, which is considered to be a much higher frequency than Usui energy.

What's the Difference Between Usui and Holy Fire Reiki?

Usui Reiki is the traditional foundation from which many modern Reiki systems developed.

Holy Fire® Reiki builds upon that foundation while introducing its own approach to working with Reiki energy.

One of the main differences you'll encounter during Holy Fire® training is the use of Placements rather than traditional attunements. At Master level, Holy Fire® Reiki also uses Ignitions. There are also specific Holy Fire® techniques and meditations included throughout the different levels of training. If you've previously learnt another Reiki system, Holy Fire® training can provide an opportunity to experience Reiki from another perspective and deepen your existing practice.

Why Do People Choose to Learn Reiki?

Everyone has their own reason for beginning. You might want to learn Reiki because you:

  • Want to develop a regular self-care practice.
  • Feel drawn towards energy healing.
  • Want to support family and friends.
  • Are interested in personal development.
  • Want to explore your intuition.
  • Are looking for a new direction in life.
  • Already work in a complementary therapy and want to add Reiki.
  • Are considering becoming a professional Reiki practitioner.
  • Simply feel that Reiki is calling you.

And sometimes, people can't really explain why. They just feel drawn to it and know they want to learn.

What Are The Benefits of Learning Reiki?

Learning Reiki can become much more than learning a healing technique.

For many people, the biggest benefits are actually personal. Regular self-Reiki can create a valuable opportunity to slow down, become more aware of yourself and make time for your own wellbeing. Students may experience benefits such as:

  • Greater relaxation
  • Increased self-awareness
  • Greater confidence
  • Personal growth
  • A deeper connection with yourself

What Happens During Holy Fire Reiki Level I?

Reiki Level I is where your journey begins.

The focus is primarily on self healing and developing your connection with Reiki, learning how to use it for yourself and family and friends.

During training, you'll explore:

  • The history of Reiki.
  • The Reiki principles.
  • Energy and the chakra system.
  • Self-Reiki.
  • Reiki hand positions.
  • Giving Reiki treatments.
  • Practical techniques.
  • Using Reiki in everyday life.

You'll have plenty of opportunity to practice rather than simply listening to information. After all, Reiki is something you learn through experience.

What is a Holy Fire Reiki Placement?

A Holy Fire® Placement is the process through which students receive their connection with Holy Fire® Reiki energy. You simply relax and receive the energy through a guided meditation that creates a space for you to receive the energy.

Everyone's experience is different. You might experience warmth, tingling, emotions, colours, sensations, images or a deep sense of peace. Or, you might not experience anything dramatic at all. There is no correct" experience. Your experience is your experience.

Learning Self-Reiki

One of the most valuable things you learn at Reiki Level 1 is how to practice Self-Reiki. This is something I particularly encourage students to embrace. It's easy to become focused on learning how to help everyone else and forget about yourself. Self-Reiki changes that. It gives you a reason to stop. To breathe. To reconnect. To give yourself some quiet time. For many people, self-Reiki becomes a regular part of their wellbeing routine.

Can You Practice Reiki on Others After Level I?

Yes. Reiki Level 1 teaches you how to practice Reiki on yourself and others. You'll learn practical hand positions and have the opportunity to practice giving and receiving Reiki during your training. You can then continue developing your confidence through regular practice. There is no need to rush into becoming a professional practitioner. You can simply enjoy learning Reiki and see where your journey takes you.

What Happens During Holy Fire Reiki Level II?

Reiki Level II builds on the foundations of Level I, introducing symbols, learning how to carry out distant healing and how to become a Reiki practitioner. For many students, Level II feels like an exciting next step. You already understand the basics and have had time to experience Reiki for yourself. Now you can begin exploring its possibilities more deeply.

How Does Distant Reiki Work?

One of the most fascinating aspects of Reiki Level II is learning distant healing.

Distant Reiki is based on the understanding that Reiki can be directed beyond physical proximity. During training, you'll learn techniques for sending Reiki across distance. This can be particularly useful for people who aren't able to attend an in-person Reiki treatment. It's also an important part of developing confidence at Reiki Level II.

What Happens During a Typical Reiki Training Day?

We begin with a relaxed conversation and a chance to settle in. We'll talk about your reasons for learning Reiki and what you'd like to get from the day.

We'll then move through the course material, combining discussion,  demonstration, practical exercises and opportunities for you to experience Reiki yourself. There will be time for questions throughout the day. Lunch is relaxed and flexible too. You're welcome to bring food with you, or there are cafés and shops nearby.

I don't want your Reiki training to feel like you're sitting through a rigid classroom timetable. It's your day.

Will I Be Able to Feel the Reiki Energy Straight Away?

Possibly—but everyone's experience is different. Some people feel warmth.

Some experience tingling. Some notice changes in temperature. Others experience emotions or visual sensations. And some people simply feel very relaxed. Don't worry if you don't experience fireworks! Not feeling strong physical sensations doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong. As you continue practicing, you may become more aware of subtle sensations and changes.

Is Reiki Spiritual?

Reiki can certainly form part of someone's spiritual journey, but you can learn Reiki simply as a complementary healing practice and a form of self-care. You don't need to adopt a particular belief system, and you don't need to believe in anything. Come as you are.

Can Reiki Become a Career?

Absolutely, but not everyone who learns Reiki wants to become a practitioner—and that's completely fine. But if you discover that you love working with Reiki, you may eventually choose to offer professional Reiki sessions. Many people combine Reiki with other complementary therapies or existing wellbeing businesses.

If you intend to work professionally, you'll also need to consider appropriate insurance, professional standards and any local requirements that apply to your practice. Reiki training can therefore be both a personal journey and, for some people, the beginning of a new career.

What Happens After Reiki Training?

Your Reiki journey doesn't end when you receive your certificate. That's when the real exploration begins. You'll have the opportunity to practice regularly, particularly self-Reiki. You may practise on family and friends. You might attend Reiki shares. You may eventually decide to offer Reiki professionally.

Or perhaps Reiki will remain something personal that you keep just for yourself. There is no right path. Your Reiki journey is your own.

Can Anyone Learn Reiki?

Yes! No previous Reiki experience is needed to learn Reiki level I.

Do I Need to be Spiritual to Learn Reiki?

No. Reiki is open to people of all beliefs and backgrounds.

Can I Learn Reiki Online?

Yes. Reiki and energy are not limited by space or time, so online training is just as effective as in-person training, and you will be placed with the Reiki energy just as if you were in the room.

Your Reiki Journey Starts With One Step

Perhaps you've been thinking about learning Reiki for months. Perhaps you've been researching Reiki courses near me, Holy Fire® Reiki training, or Reiki Level 1 and 2 courses late at night. Perhaps you keep coming back to the idea but haven't quite felt ready.

You don't need to know exactly where Reiki will take you. You don't need to have your whole journey mapped out. You simply need to take the first step.

Learning Reiki can give you a lifelong skill, a regular opportunity for self-care and a new way of connecting with yourself and others and even a new, rewarding career. Who knows where that first step might lead?
